 Will Pembroke

I am at my happiest when I'm out on location with my camera in hand shooting photos striving to improve every day.

I love travelling and seeing the world in my own photogenic way.

I am a landscape & cityscape photographer, content creator & YouTuber based in Sydney, Australia.

Photography, I love it, it's my life, it's my passion.

Bio

I first started taking photos when I was 13 years old. At the time I was living in Vancouver, Canada and couldn’t believe how beautiful the landscapes and atmosphere was. I wanted a way to capture this and naturally, I started taking photos switching from my IPad Mini and my GoPro Hero 3. I had this setup for a couple of years until I got back to Sydney in 2015 and bought a Nikon D3300. This is when I truly fell in love with taking photos, it was a creative outlet for me, it gave me space and helped me express my thoughts in a way I felt words couldn't.

I found that as my eye improved and I started to develop my style and try different Niches (portraiture for example) I kept leaning towards capturing Nature and Cityscape scenes. Something about being awake before anyone else and being able to create little frames and compositions out of what is around you really appealed to me. I had finally discovered my passion.

I then discovered the night sky and tried to photograph the massive Galactic centre above me, the feeling of seeing the incredible colours and stars of the Milkyway on the back of my camera screen for the first time was more than euphoric. This is why astrophotography still is my favourite niche, as that feeling of extreme euphoria still isn’t gone.

In 2018 I did my High School Certificate, naturally, I focused on photography, it was a stressful 12 months with Major works and exams. For the first time, I had a deadline for taking photos for my Major works and it wasn’t a feeling that I liked. These 12 months of feeling stressed because of photography caused me to go through a massive slump in my photos. 18 months to be exact. I was so worn out that I needed a break, not knowing how long that break would be or if I would ever return to photography, I slowly stopped taking photos.

However, 18 months later in May 2020, I was staying in a small coastal town 3 hours south of Sydney to do work while the main brunt of the COVID-19 Pandemic (taking place in Sydney city) calmed down. I had taken my camera gear with me just because I knew that it was a beautiful location with clear dark night skies. I didn’t think I’d actually go out to shoot properly but I thought I would just in case. Lo and Behold I did, I got up one early morning to just go for a walk along the beach at Sunrise. I took my camera and tripod with me just in case I wanted to get a couple of long exposures. Soon enough the walk turned into a shoot and I enjoyed taking photos again.

After that shoot, I was out almost every sunrise and sunset to take photos at the local beaches. I was researching gear again and updating my Instagram and Website again for the first time in 18 months.

This is basically how I got to now. These days I shoot with my new Sony a7iii and my Sony 16-35 f/2.8 GM lens.
